 About the Book

Humanity has always had a fascination with the search for truth and meaning. Our distant ancestors, confronted with the need to hunt their food, saw that their spears and rocks had a purpose, a meaning, a task. This naturally lead them to wonder, “IfMoreHumanity has always had a fascination with the search for truth and meaning. Our distant ancestors, confronted with the need to hunt their food, saw that their spears and rocks had a purpose, a meaning, a task. This naturally lead them to wonder, “If the tools I use have a purpose, what is my purpose?”In addition to the search for purpose, there has been the search for fulfillment. Once the immediate needs of physical hunger, physical thirst and physical safety are met, we seek out a connection with our fellow humans. The need for love, passion, community and family are addressed. As we try to sate these needs, to meet these demands, we continue to strive to relate all of this to meaning and purpose. The existential needs and concerns rise, and we begin to contemplate philosophy, even if abstractly. We might not call it philosophy or recognize it as such, but all of us who have ever thought more deeply than “I am hungry, I should eat” are philosophers in our own right. Plato is notable not for the depth of his philosophy, but for having written about many things before anyone else.Connect with your inner philosopher, unleash your own quests for meaning and vision. For too long material goods and the marketing for them has monopolized our quest for meaning and fulfillment. The pocketbooks of corporations have become our purpose, and it is time to change that.
